The T-72M1 is a modernized T-72M ( The T-72M is an export version of the T-72A ) with 16mm armor plate above the driver station and added composite armor on the turret.

The T–72M1R is a modernized T–72M1 that get upgraded with KLW-1 « Asteria » gunner thermal vision and modern communications.
